Geo-referencing

The task of assigning a geographic position to a geospatial object is called geo-referencing. The location of the object on earth is determined by a geographic position vector and a corresponding coordinate reference system (CRS).

For example the geographic position of the Honolulu Wedding Office is described by the vector (618642,2356581) with respect to the UTM WGS84 coordinate reference system. The vector is specified relative to UTM zone 4.
